Shield
Teal blue was formerly used for Aviation battalions. The pheons refer to the unit's participation in four assault landings during World War II and to its unit decorations. The yellow, used in connection with the pheon, indicates that the awards and honors were for service as a Cavalry unit.
Crest
The griffin, renowned for its vigilance and guardianship, commemorates the unit's service as a reconnaissance unit during the Korean War. The griffin is gold, implying excellence and achievement. The burst of eight points recalls the unit's eight Korean campaigns; it is scarlet signifying honor, courage and action.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 24th Aviation Battalion on 29 March 1963. It was redesignated for the 24th Aviation Regiment on 22 October 1987. It was amended to include a crest on 24 October 1989. The insignia was amended to correct the symbolism of the shield on 29 November 1989.
